Amateur Radio Club

In January, Post 116 and the South Wake Amateur Radio Club (SWARC) hosted Amateur Radio classes over three weekends for the public to study and earn their entry-level FCC Amateur Radio licenses. We had 15 participants (several Legion Family members) and 13 passed their test. Of the 13, two took the next two level tests and earned the highest level license (Extra Class). Planning has started for additional training sessions next quarter.

Nationally, there are now twenty-nine American Legion Posts with Amateur Radio stations, and three more are in development. In North Carolina, we (WB4TAL) were first, but Post 187 in Wake Forest has established a station (WF4TAL) and Post 19 in Tarboro is just getting started. All of this is in support of The American Legion Pillar II: National Security and having fun. For more information, visit https://www.legion.org/hamradio
